History of the Subaru WRX

The Subaru WRX has been around for a couple of decades in the U.S., and it shows no signs of leaving. Originally coming to U.S. shores in 2002, the Subaru WRX saw its first American generation reign for about five years. This first generation was known as the Subaru Impreza WRX. From 2008 until 2014 came the second generation of the Subaru WRX, adding more horsepower, features, and a new five-door hatchback. It was after 2011 that the connection to the Impreza was dropped, resulting in the modern Subaru WRX name we know today.

The third generation began in 2015 and ended as recently as 2021. This began the Subaru WRX’s ascent into becoming mainly a performance vehicle. This sedan saw the introduction of direct injection and the addition of a continuously variable transmission.

Now we come to the current generation, the fourth generation, which began in 2022. Only in its second year of production, the fourth generation Subaru WRX is still fresh. This modern generation saw the biggest changes seen throughout its history, with a revamp of the entire model. New powertrains, performance features, a more aggressive body styling, and more can be found in this model.
